$3 vanda orchids

So here it goes… not a traditional way to plant Vandas but they seem to be thriving so far (approximately 2 months). When I was watering today, I sprayed the Vandas a few times until their roots were dark green. Looking good!

palm possibilities

I haven’t seen this particular palm before, it is called an Adonida Palm (Veitchia Merrillii). It is currently on my list of possibilities but I needed to research it a bit before committing to it…

bagged orchids

I guess I felt sorry for these orchids, the plant markers were dated over a year ago. I don’t know if the dates were when they were put in the bags to die or what, but I can pretty much guarantee that they haven’t been watered in a loooong time. birds of paradise thriving

On a lighter note… this is one of my favorite plants. It was one of my grandmother’s favorites as well and I swear this plant has bloomed year round since she passed away…

The previous owner’s mother planted it about 12 years ago and even though I would never have considered planting it myself, it has turned out to be a plant that I’ve grown to love. [...]

bougainvillea to bloom

This bright pink bougainvillea is growing on a gate on the side of my house and I am always asked how I get it to bloom year round. Bougainvillea is a lot like me… a Type A personality which thrives on stress. The trick for this “stress junkie” is to plant it in the ground and leave [...]

hey y’all!

My name is Jeanne and I have lived in the New Orleans, LA area my whole life. I grew up in nurseries and garden centers because my mother was a licensed horticulturalist, so I guess “green” runs through my blood. I love gardening and have a passion for tropical plants… especially orchids and bromeliads. Through [...]
